Afghanistan releases its 15-man roster for the ICC Men’s World Cup in 2023.

Naveen, who last participated in a List A game in 2021, and Azmatullah Omarzai, who missed the Asia Cup due to injury, both rejoin the team.

The 15-member Afghanistan team was recently selected for participation in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2023 starting next month.

After a two-year absence, Naveen ul Haq was re-inducted into the Afghanistan ODI squad for the World Cup in India, while senior all-rounder Gulbadin Naib was left out despite playing well in the current Asia Cup.

Hashmatullah Shahidi’s team has four members who are different from the group competing in the Asia Cup. Along with Naib, other notables who were left out include Karim Janat, Sharafuddin Ashraf, and Suliman Safi.

Naveen, who last participated in a List A game in 2021, and Azmatullah Omarzai, who missed the Asia Cup due to injury, both rejoin the team.

Only seven ODIs have been played by Naveen, who currently holds 14 wickets at an average of 25.42. After a six-year suspension from ODI cricket, Janat was brought back for the Asia Cup but was then benched.

In the Pakistan series, Naib took the wickets of the openers, then on Tuesday he took a four-wicket haul against Sri Lanka, but he does not make the squad.
