Hafeez opens up about Pakistan’s Asia Cup

After Pakistan were knocked out of the Asia Cup 2023 by Sri Lanka on Thursday in Colombo, former captain Mohammad Hafeez spoke out about the team’s performance.

At the R.Premadasa Stadium, Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by two wickets in a virtual semi-final of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023.

  • Hafeez expressed disappointment about Pakistan’s outcome on X.

  • However, the former all-rounder hoped for “better planning and result” in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 in India. Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by two wickets at the Asia Cup thanks to 91 from Kusal Mendis and 49 from Charith Asalanka.
  • With Asalanka playing the winning shot on the last ball at 1.07 am local time, Sri Lanka chased a DLS revised target of 252 in the 42-overs-a-side contest in Colombo.
  • Millions of fans had hoped for a final between India and Pakistan, a prelude to next month’s ODI World Cup.

Asalanka remained calm under pressure despite Shaheen Shah Afridi’s two wickets in two balls in the penultimate over and Zaman Khan’s first four balls giving away just two runs and a wicket in the 42nd over.

The third wicket partnership between Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama, who made 48, set Sri Lanka up for victory, but Asalanka took over after their departure.
