India has risen to second place after storming into the Asia Cup final, ahead of Pakistan, which has lost the No. 1 ODI ranking following their elimination from the tournament. The Babar Azam-led side, which fell to Sri Lanka in a last-ball drama for their second consecutive defeat in the ‘Super Four,’ fell two spots to third with 115 points in the ICC’s mid-week report.

Australia is currently the No. 1 ODI team, two points ahead of India (116), as the fight for the top slot heats up ahead of the World Cup next month.

Both countries will also play a three-match One-Day International series in India commencing on September 22 before their World Cup opener on October 8 in Chennai.

Australia has risen to No. 1 following back-to-back defeats in South Africa, but their 111-run setback in the third ODI in Potchefstroom may have opened the door for India.

The fourth and final ODI between South Africa and Australia is scheduled for Friday, with the series finale on Sunday.

On Sunday, India will face co-hosts Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final.
