Zaman Khan’s heartbreaking social media post following Pakistan’s Asia Cup elimination

Zaman Khan’s heartbreaking social media post

Sri Lanka qualified for the Asia Cup 2023 final despite a poor performance from Pakistan pacer Zaman Khan.

When Sri Lanka needed 8 runs to win the game in the final over of the Super 4 match on Thursday, Pakistan pacer Zaman Khan was tasked with guiding his team to the Asia Cup final. After Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah were injured, Zaman took the first four deliveries very well, conceding just two runs. Nevertheless, Charith Asalanka led the islanders to the final of the tournament by conceding 6 runs in the last two deliveries.

In a heartbroken post on Twitter (now X), Zaman posted pictures from the match with the caption, “I tried”.

He explained his decision to bowl the newcomer Zaman Khan in the final over, saying he wanted to give his ‘best bowlers’ the final two overs of the match. Shaheen Afridi had bowled the penultimate over for Pakistan.

We chose to bowl our best bowlers in the end. So I bowled Shaheen in the second last over and then we relied on Zaman Khan in the final over. The SL team played well, they played better cricket than us, so they won. In the post-match presentation ceremony, Babar said, “Our bowling and fielding were not up to par, which led to our loss.”

In response to the question, Babar said, “We aren’t bowling well in the middle overs. That partnership (between Mendis and Samarawickrama) cost us the match. We started well, we finished well, but we didn’t take wickets in the middle overs.
